Bracing and the Return of Spring

1 min read

Spring has a different feeling in the body.

After months of winter slowing down, resting, and pulling inward, things begin to move again. There’s more light. More energy. More activity. More expectation.

Sometimes the body comes with us easily. Sometimes it doesn’t.

A lot of people don’t notice how much they’re bracing until life starts speeding up again.

Bracing can look like:

  • holding the breath

  • tightening the jaw

  • lifting the shoulders

  • always being “on”

  • pushing through fatigue

  • doing more effort than is actually needed

Over time, this can become so familiar that it starts to feel normal.

Somatic movement gives us a way to begin noticing these patterns without fighting them or trying to force change. We slow down enough to feel what the body is already doing.

Often the body doesn’t need more stretching, more correcting, or more effort.

Sometimes it needs less doing.

Less holding .Less guarding. Less unconscious effort.

When that effort begins to soften, people often notice:

  • easier breathing

  • less pain and tension

  • more energy

  • better sleep

  • a greater sense of ease in themselves

Not because they forced the body to relax, but because the nervous system no longer feels like it has to work so hard.

This spring, you might simply notice:

What am I still holding that I no longer need to hold?

No need to change it right away. Just notice.
